Strikeforce is finally going to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a UFC town so it's always been taboo for rival promotions to hold events in the desert, but with the recent Zuffa purchase of Strikeforce, all barriers to have that promotion land in Sin City are gone.

ESPN.com's Brett Okamoto reports that a future Strikeforce Challengers show will be held in Las Vegas in July.

Sources have confirmed to ESPN.com the promotion intends to bring its Strikeforce Challengers series to Las Vegas on July 22. The card will most likely take place at The Pearl at The Palms casino, which has hosted UFC events in the past.

No fight matchups have been announced for the summer show, although sources say the date is expected to be the first of multiple Strikeforce Challengers cards held in Las Vegas.

Strikeforce Challengers 16 is slated for Kent, Wa. on June 24. Strikeforce has never held a show in Nevada. The last major promotion to invade Las Vegas was PRIDE with PRIDE 33 at the Thomas & Mack Arena in February of 2007. Just over a month later, UFC purchased PRIDE, the roster and library from its Japanese owners.
